According to the LHMT, the hottest June day was recorded since the start of meteorological observations in the country. On 28 June, air temperature in Druskininkai, southwestern Lithuania, reached 36.3 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n
The previous record of 35.7 degrees Celsius was set on 12 June 2019 in Kai\u0161iadorys, central Lithuania. The new record is by 0.6 degrees higher.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, air temperature records in Nida, Var\u0117na and Vilnius were also set on 27 and 28 June. Air temperature in Vilnius on 28 June stood at 33.6 degrees Celsius. According to the LHMT, this was the highest June temperature in the Lithuanian capital in 250 years, where meteorological observations have been carried out since 1778.<\/p>\n
Lithuania experienced a heatwave on 27 June\u20131 July. A heatwave is declared when the maximum daily air temperature reaches or exceeds 30 degrees Celsius for three or more days in a row.<\/p>\n
On 27\u201329 June, the heatwave was recorded by nearly half of Lithuania\u2019s weather stations, 25 out of 54. In southern Lithuania, the heatwave continued until 1 July.<\/p>\n
The hottest June night in Lithuania was also recorded since the start of meteorological observations. On the night of 29 June, air temperature in Vent\u0117 did not fall below 24.1 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n
Tropical nights were recorded in most parts of Lithuania, in 31 out of 54 weather stations.
