I was very disappointed with NATO, and frankly, if it weren’t held in Turkey, where my friend happens to be a very strong leader, a very strong person, it’s possible that I wouldn’t have attended,” Trump said. The president’s comments come as thousands of American troops remain stationed across Europe, forming part of the U.S. security umbrella that NATO has relied on for decades. Trump also renewed his push for U.S. control of Greenland, an island currently governed by NATO ally Denmark. “That should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark,” Trump said. While the demand for Greenland is not new, raising it again at a NATO summit adds pressure on the alliance, which is built around defending allied territory. At the same time, NATO countries are working to show they are meeting Trump’s previous demands to increase defense spending. Several European allies and Canada have committed to more military weapons, equipment, and infrastructure, a key focus of the summit. Tomorrow, Trump is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a meeting that will test NATO’s alignment. Ukraine continues to request additional military support, but Trump is pressing NATO allies to take on more of that responsibility. Ukraine has also reiterated its call for NATO membership, which would require member countries to defend it if attacked.Meanwhile, tensions are escalating in the Strait of Hormuz after several commercial vessels were struck by projectiles. U.S. officials have blamed Iran for the attacks, which have caused oil prices to rise. The incidents have raised concerns about a potential escalation as the U.S. and Iran negotiate a long-term peace deal. Additionally, the U.S. Treasury Department has revoked a 60-day license that had allowed the sale of Iranian oil. The license, issued last month, was part of an interim agreement to end the fighting between the two countries. Treasury officials have not commented on the decision.

President Donald Trump criticized NATO during a summit in Turkey, expressing disappointment with the alliance for not supporting the United States in the war in Iran and raising the possibility of pulling U.S. troops from NATO countries.

“Well, we’re going to see.
