{"id":126455,"date":"2026-07-09T18:37:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T18:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/126455\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T18:37:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T18:37:19","slug":"wolfsburgs-christian-eriksen-to-undergo-rehab-in-denmark-following-june-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/126455\/","title":{"rendered":"Wolfsburg\u2019s Christian Eriksen to undergo rehab in Denmark following June collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christian Eriksen is to \u201ccomplete an individual rehabilitation programme\u201d in his native Denmark after collapsing on the pitch during an international friendly in June, his club Wolfsburg have said.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark\u2019s friendly with Ukraine was abandoned after Eriksen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7340366\/2026\/06\/07\/christian-eriksen-health-collapse-denmark\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">collapsed in the 65th minute<\/a> at the Odense Isstadion.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old\u2019s heart starter \u2014 also known as an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a small device that regulates abnormal heart rhythms \u2014 shocked him during the match and the midfielder collapsed after appearing to clutch his chest. He was able to walk to a waiting ambulance which took him to hospital for further tests.<\/p>\n<p>Eriksen was fitted with an ICD after suffering a cardiac arrest during a European Championship match for Denmark against Finland in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/vflwolfsburg.int\/posts\/pfbid0eJVCKtrPkZDAyyi1iV6ZM8X4oucDRRERaixKQLSPo2eS5EHPEzEE9UYUqs3h2Pyvl#\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a brief statement posted to the club\u2019s social media channels<\/a>, Wolfsburg said on Thursday: \u201cChristian Eriksen will soon begin the next stage of his recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in regular contact with Christian and his medical team, and we continue to wish him all the best throughout his rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing discussions with VfL managing director Dieter Hecking, it has been agreed that the 34-year-old will complete an individual rehabilitation program in his home country of Denmark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eriksen joined Wolfsburg as a free agent last September after leaving Manchester United and has a contract until summer 2027 with the Bundesliga club.<\/p>\n<p>The former Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan and Brentford playmaker made 31 appearances in the German top flight last season, scoring three times and providing nine assists.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark led Ukraine 2-1 when Eriksen collapsed.
