{"id":127085,"date":"2026-07-10T15:11:38","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T15:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/127085\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T15:11:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T15:11:38","slug":"denmark-to-buy-two-boeing-p-8-aircraft-for-arctic-surveillance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/127085\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark to buy two Boeing P-8 aircraft for Arctic surveillance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANKARA \u2014 The Danish Ministry of Defence says it has decided to acquire two Boeing <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2025\/09\/denmark-moves-toward-p-8-poseidon-maritime-patrol-aircraft-purchase-minister-says\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">P-8 Poseidon<\/a> maritime patrol aircraft to increase the country\u2019s combat power in the Arctic and North Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Copenhagen said in a translated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmn.dk\/da\/nyheder\/2026\/danmark-anskaffer-nye-maritime-patruljefly\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement today<\/a> that the move follows a procurement recommendation from the Nordic nation\u2019s chief of defense, Gen. Michael Wiggers Hyldgaard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expected order comes as Denmark and allies meet this week at the NATO Summit in Turkey, where a spate of major weapons deals are expected to be announced, along with discussions focused on ramping up production and renewed military support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent months, Copenhagen has stepped up efforts to strengthen Arctic subsurface and oversea surveillance capabilities <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2025\/02\/denmark-to-pass-3-percent-gdp-on-defense-over-fear-of-russian-rearmament\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">amid Russian threats<\/a> and US President Donald Trump\u2019s verbal push to acquire Greenland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe must be able to defend all parts of the kingdom,\u201d Hyldgaard said in the Danish MoD statement. \u201cThis also applies to the Arctic and North Atlantic areas.
