Maersk, one of the \u200bworld’s largest shipping companies, said on Thursday it would \u2060resume its Middle \u2060East-to-U.S. East Coast service through the Suez Canal, as the Danish \u200bgroup takes another \u200bstep toward restoring \u2060routes through the Red Sea.<\/p>\n

Most shipping companies abandoned the Asia-Europe trade corridor through the Suez Canal after attacks in the Red Sea by Yemen’s Houthis, forcing vessels to take the much longer route around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. Some carriers \u2060have \u2060recently begun considering a gradual return to the corridor.<\/p>\n

“By making the structural change of returning to the trans-Suez route for the MECL service, we will offer significantly improved transit times,” Maersk said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The company \u2060said westbound transit times would improve by an average of seven days, while eastbound sailings \u200bwould be up to 14 days faster.<\/p>\n

Maersk said \u200bon Monday that it would resume some sailings through the \u2060Suez \u200cCanal \u200cunder its Gemini cooperation \u2060network with Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd.<\/p>\n

Maersk has \u200calso faced disruption to other services \u200bin the Middle East \u2060during the Iran war, \u2060with some vessels unable to enter or \u2060leave the \u200bGulf.<\/p>\n
