COPENHAGEN, New York (WWNY) – The Hopenhagen Lavender Festival is under way Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have over 140 vendors, we have food trucks on top of that, live music,\u201d said Mary Rumble, Co-Owner of Hopenhagen Farm. \u201cBut the big draw? You cut your own lavender.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rumble and her husband have been drawing crowds to Copenhagen since 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cCopenhagen is such a small town,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd to have thousands of people come through our village, and it\u2019s not just us that get to enjoy everybody here but our downtown businesses and up across the bridge, they get business too from it.\u201d<\/p>\n
With plenty of vendors, and things to do, it\u2019s fun for the whole family, with plenty of attendees praising the event. <\/p>\n
\u201cComing out with my mom, seeing the lavender, smelling it and deciding which ones we want to do for our bundle,\u201d said Brook Hufnagel. \u201cIts just… that\u2019s my favorite part.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI love seeing all the small companies and start up businesses and just people making things with their hands, and supporting them,\u201d said Theresa McMahon.<\/p>\n
When it comes to lavender, it can be used for all sorts of things. Dry it out, use it as essential oils, put it in tea. Or if you\u2019re at the Lavender Fest, get a bottle of wine or even ice cream.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m up to 8 flavors of lavender hard ice cream, and I\u2019ve been working with and experimenting this year,\u201d said Rumble. \u201cLavender lemonade, lavender snow cones, lavender slushies, lavender wine coolers. A mixture of either lavender or lavender blueberry or lavender strawberry, because lavender is just a nice herb that mixes well with different fruits.\u201d<\/p>\n
And with the sun shining, folks couldn\u2019t have chosen a better day to check out the festival.<\/p>\n
