A new 180 sq. m Aib\u0117 convenience grocery store has opened at Vir\u0161uli\u0161ki\u0173 skg. 28 in Vilnius, restoring a nearby food-shopping option for residents in one of the Lithuanian capital\u2019s fastest-changing neighbourhood areas.<\/p>\n
The store was opened under a franchise model by UAB Brukne Market. It will operate daily from 8:00 to 22:00 and is expected to serve both local residents and visitors to sports and leisure venues located in the same building.<\/p>\n
The new Aib\u0117 is located in Vir\u0161uli\u0161k\u0117s, a district in western Vilnius. More specifically, it is in an area between Laisv\u0117s Avenue, Pilait\u0117s Avenue, Justini\u0161ki\u0173 Street and the Western Bypass, a major road corridor on the edge of the city\u2019s built-up districts.<\/p>\n
For many years, this part of Vilnius was associated more with municipal, industrial and transport infrastructure than with residential life. It is known locally for landmarks such as the Press House and the trolleybus depot. Publishing facilities, printing houses, a car service station, cooperative garages and heat and electricity network facilities also operated in the area.<\/p>\n
That function is now changing. Thousands of new residents have moved in, business centres have opened, and construction continues. In that context, the new shop is intended to fill a practical gap: according to the company, there were no other shopping centres within a 500-metre radius.<\/p>\n
Nedas Jucys, head of UAB Brukne Market, said the location for the company\u2019s first store had been searched for carefully for almost a year. He said the company assessed the current and future number of residents, pedestrian flows, nearby businesses and the lack of competing retail centres in the immediate area.<\/p>\n
By size, the new Aib\u0117 corresponds to an \u201cexpress\u201d format, meaning a smaller store focused on everyday food items and quick purchases rather than large weekly shopping trips.<\/p>\n
Jucys said the company wants to give shoppers what they are looking for while also introducing products they may not have seen before. \u201cBecause membership in the Aib\u0117 alliance does not restrict members from acting at their own discretion, in our store you will find a constantly changing assortment, a lot of experimentation and novelties. We intend to cooperate with foreign suppliers, attend international exhibitions and import world food,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The company says it will seek to keep prices at a level that does not encourage residents to travel farther for shopping. The store has a modern interior with wood-finish details, plants and plant imitations. It will also offer coffee from a machine and buns baked on site.<\/p>\n
For residents of a denser urban neighbourhood, such a store is likely to function as a nearby place for daily essentials, quick top-up purchases after work, or food and drinks before or after leisure activities.<\/p>\n
The store is opening in a building that already hosts several sports and leisure operators: the PlayDate pickleball and padel club, Jusis Training, Varanas Skills basketball activities, and the Amerigo bowling and billiards club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also pleased to join the strong community already operating in this building,\u201d Jucys said. He added that the sporty neighbourhood may influence the product range, as the shop aims to respond to customers who train or spend leisure time in the building.<\/p>\n
That could make quick snacks, drinks, coffee and convenient post-training products especially relevant. The final assortment is expected to depend on customer behaviour after the store begins operating.<\/p>\n
The wider Vir\u0161uli\u0161k\u0117s area is also seeing larger real estate plans. Homa Group, which operates the nearby PlayDate pickleball and padel arena, is planning a major investment in the same quarter. At Laisv\u0117s pr. 58, on the site of a former telecom building that later housed an educational institution, a \u201ccity within a city\u201d type project is planned with more than 500 apartments and commercial premises. Construction is expected to begin next year.<\/p>\n
Vilnius city authorities have also opened a new public space along Pilait\u0117s Avenue this spring. The area, previously difficult to access, now includes a lit square with paths, recreation and sports areas, chess tables, and a wooden bridge over a preserved and restored wetland.<\/p>\n
Together, the grocery store, sports venues, housing projects and public-space improvements show how this part of Vir\u0161uli\u0161k\u0117s is moving from a former utility and industrial zone toward a mixed residential, business and leisure district.<\/p>\n
