{"id":128572,"date":"2026-07-13T14:22:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T14:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/128572\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T14:22:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T14:22:19","slug":"maersk-cautiously-resumes-red-sea-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/128572\/","title":{"rendered":"Maersk cautiously resumes Red Sea operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maersk has announced plans to resume parts of its Middle East-to-US East Coast service through the Suez Canal, marking another step towards restoring regular shipping routes via the Red Sea after more than a year of disruption.<\/p>\n<p>According to an advisory published on 9 July Maersk stated that its Middle East to US East Coast (MECL) service would return to the trans-Suez route following the successful Red Sea transit of the Majestic Maersk. The service, operated solely by Maersk, will now transit through the Red Sea rather than routing around the Cape of Good Hope.<\/p>\n<p>The move follows widespread disruption to the Asia-Europe shipping corridor <a href=\"https:\/\/safety4sea.com\/bimco-suez-canal-transits-still-60-down-since-last-houthi-attack\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after attacks by Yemen\u2019s Houthi movement against commercial vessels in the Red Sea<\/a> forced many carriers to suspend Suez Canal transits and adopt the longer route around Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Maersk commented that the return of the MECL service through the Suez Canal represents a further step towards a gradual restoration of the trans-Suez corridor, which remains a critical link between Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe Suez Canal is a vital maritime corridor between East and West and a key driver of efficient global supply chains,\u201d Maersk said, adding that the route provides the fastest and most efficient connection for customers trading between India, the Middle East and the US East Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The company said the route change will significantly improve transit times, reducing westbound voyages by an average of seven days and eastbound voyages by approximately 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate advisory on 13 July, Maersk stated that it will also return its WAF6 service, connecting the Middle East, Mediterranean and West Africa, to the Red Sea route between Salalah and the West Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the resumption of services, Maersk said it will continue to closely monitor security conditions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The company emphasised that the safety of crew, vessels and cargo remains its highest priority and that contingency plans are in place should security conditions deteriorate and require a return to Cape of Good Hope routings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Maersk has announced plans to resume parts of its Middle East-to-US East Coast service through the Suez Canal,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":128573,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[224],"tags":[245,746,2010],"class_list":["post-128572","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-maersk","tag-maersk","tag-red-sea","tag-suez-canal"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@dk\/116913120794407029","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/128572","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=128572"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/128572\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/128573"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=128572"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=128572"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=128572"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
