Both models contain interactive elements, play features, and very playable minifigures – but both builds and bases are structured in such a way that the primary usage seems to be display. It makes sense, as these are both marketed as 18+ sets.

The front view of this model is especially clean, with the golden Triforce set into the black base being the most visually striking element. While the characters are certainly adjustable and posable, there seems to be a ‘designed’ way to display them. Ganon’s feet specifically lock into two sections built into the ground and his tail attaches to a sloped brick, while Link is positioned attached to a translucent bar to give him a leaping appearance. While this view looks very clean from the front, the character positioning when viewed from the side or at an angle is a bit awkward as everyone appears to be looking in different directions.

The primary interactive element is a button that when pressed, reveals a Ganondorf minifigure. This is specifically based on the cutscene from this final battle, where Ganondorf bursts from the rubble before transforming into the beast Ganon. It works very smoothly, but hiding a minifigure this incredible (we’ll get to that later) feels like a disservice in the display. It may not be canon, but Ganondorf and Ganon deserve to share this battlefield together.

There are a few easter eggs hidden throughout the build, like the loose hearts under a broken platform. The minifigure spread is absolutely incredible (and probably as good as it gets at this price point across all themes). There’s no sticker sheet, and the printed elements on the Ganon buildable figure are high quality and make him feel more like a “big fig” character and less like just a part of the display.

I do wish there were more playability to the model, as the buildable Ganon figure and the base itself are not necessarily conducive to play. The primary interactive element involves hiding the absolute highlight of the set, so that’s unfortunately not something I’ll be making much use of as Ganondorf is already deservedly front and center on my shelf.

As a Zelda fan and MOC builder, I’m so excited to have these minifigures, and I already have a long list of what I’d like to build to feature them.
