The PPA, which runs from October 2026 to October 2028, will allow Good Energy to purchase 200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity over each of the two years, supplying up to 74,000 UK homes annually.<\/p>\n
The electricity is being supplied by \u00d8rsted\u2019s Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms, which are off the coast of Cumbria. As part of the deal, Good Energy will consume around one-sixth of the wind farms\u2019 total output.<\/p>\n
Fran Woodward, managing director of supply at Good Energy, stated: \u201cThis agreement with \u00d8rsted is a key milestone for Good Energy and marks the largest energy supply deal we have ever signed. More importantly, it represents a step change in the scale of our supply at a time when demand for home\u2011grown renewable power is accelerating, driven by an ongoing energy crisis and heightened global instability.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy partnering with \u00d8rsted on Walney, we\u2019re significantly increasing the amount of predictable UK renewable power in our portfolio. That scale allows us to bring clean, reliable energy to more households across the UK, while also supporting businesses that are investing in the energy transition and looking for greater certainty and renewable security as they navigate increasingly volatile energy markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Good Energy looks to expand its supply in the UK, we are keen to further develop this relationship and support their continued growth alongside our own portfolio developments. Together, we share the desire to speed up the transition to a sustainable energy system.\u201d<\/p>\n Supporting cleaner data centres<\/p>\n The new deal follows another agreement made between the pair in 2023, which sees Good Energy receive 110 GWh a year from \u00d8rsted\u2019s Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm. Together, the projects are supporting Good Energy\u2019s expansion across more domestic households and large energy users, including data centres.<\/p>\n Giving the huge volumes of power they consume, set to only increase as artificial intelligence (AI) workloads ramp up, data centres are under pressure to decarbonise rapidly and scale in a way that doesn\u2019t strain the grid or rely on fossil fuel-generated power.<\/p>\n Related articles: AI Growth: UK Data Centres\u2019 Energy and Net-Zero Impact<\/a><\/p>\n
