“Cooling facilities should not be a privilege reserved for those with the space or resources to access them. With this new pool, we are making outdoor swimming part of our basic urban infrastructure once again. This is necessary because every Brussels resident deserves access to public spaces where they can find relief and relaxation on hot days. That is why we are building a pool where everyone is welcome,” states State secretary for Urban Renewal, Ans Persoons (Vooruit). According to her, “the indoor pool is also essential for our schools and swimming clubs, as there are too few places in Brussels where children can learn to swim”.<\/p>\n
The project is now truly underway, as the foundations for the pool have already been laid, thanks to a total investment of 4 million euros from the Flemish Community Commission and the Brussels region.<\/p>\n
The project includes at least a 25-metre indoor pool, intended for swimming lessons and sports clubs; a teaching pool; an outdoor pool, with the ambition to realise a 25-metre outdoor pool accessible throughout the entire summer season; recreational and relaxation areas, the design of which will be left to the creativity of the architects.<\/p>\n
