{"id":130907,"date":"2026-07-17T09:05:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T09:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/130907\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T09:05:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T09:05:17","slug":"more-of-the-same-as-new-danske-boss-oversees-stellar-trading-period-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/130907\/","title":{"rendered":"More of the same as new Danske boss oversees stellar trading period \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The new chief executive of Danske Bank has continued where her predecessor left off by presiding over another stellar trading period in which profits soared, lending increased and thousands more customers signed up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/vicky-davies-to-stand-down-as-chief-executive-of-danske-bank-IJNSV2IKX5AZ3NCI32HWNRYX6M\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/vicky-davies-to-stand-down-as-chief-executive-of-danske-bank-IJNSV2IKX5AZ3NCI32HWNRYX6M\/\">Julie-Ann Haines was appointed in February to succeed Vicky Davies<\/a>, who had been five years in the role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ms Haines &#8211; who arrived in Belfast having been chief executive of Principality Building Society, the biggest financial services organisation in Wales &#8211; had shadowed Ms Davies for a period until taking up the role permanently on July 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">And over the first six months of 2026, the north\u2019s biggest bank saw total income rise by 12% to \u00a3232.4 million, and after expenses, its profit soared by some 14% from \u00a3118.4m to \u00a3135.4m.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/defence-business-which-saw-fivemiletown-placed-on-russian-war-hit-list-sees-assets-pass-100m-U2ABEEV3NZBWDOFR57TARB5K4Q\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Defence business which saw sleepy Co Tyrone town placed on Russian &#x2018;war hit list&#x2019; sees assets pass &#xA3;100m\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/UUWEBJA2JVGJPMQTEHLMT5EUEE.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/council-enforcement-action-against-major-coal-importer-and-distributor-quashed-on-appeal-Y2OVP5UVGJAHLCQ7GULOBE6ACE\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Council enforcement action against major coal importer and distributor quashed on appeal\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/W6Z5SYMDIBEFNGNHUPR7DIK3YE.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Loans were up 10% to just shy of \u00a37.3 billion, and there was a 6% lift in total deposits to more than \u00a312.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to begin my tenure as Danske Bank\u2019s new UK chief executive at a time when it is performing so well,\u201d Ms Haines said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cDuring the first half of the year we recorded a profit before tax of \u00a3135.4 million, with income driven by lending and deposit growth in a steady interest rate environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the first six months of the year Danske supported the business community in the north with over \u00a3400 million in business lending approvals. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Vicky Davies will this summer to stand down from her role as chief executive of Danske Bank UK after five years. Photo: Kelvin Boyes \/ Press Eye (Kelvin Boyes\/Kelvin Boyes \/ Press Eye ) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It revealed that notable transactions included providing growth funding for the likes of the Andras House hotel group, Armagh Dental Clinic, Donnelly Group, Andrew Ingredients, Alpha Housing, Apex Housing Association and Clanmil Housing Group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ms Haines added: \u201cWe also welcomed around 900 small businesses to Danske Bank, with many attracted by the two years of fee-free banking available with our small business digital account, a strong option for customers who want the flexibility to self-serve. It has been awarded a five-star rating by Moneyfacts for its digital-first design and essential banking features.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWhen it comes to everyday banking in Northern Ireland, we welcomed around 7,000 new personal current account customers in the first half of the year, over 30% of whom are under 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe also continue to strongly support home-buyers throughout Northern Ireland and across the UK. Since January, we have approved over \u00a3600 million in total mortgage lending, an increase of around 20% year on year. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Danske Bank has confirmed that its new Lisburn branch in Bow Street Mall will officially open on Monday April 20.
