{"id":131531,"date":"2026-07-18T14:31:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T14:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/131531\/"},"modified":"2026-07-18T14:31:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T14:31:20","slug":"we-are-ready-to-defend-greenland-denmarks-pm-tells-trump-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/131531\/","title":{"rendered":"We are ready to defend Greenland, Denmark\u2019s PM tells Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Trump <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/world-news\/2026\/02\/03\/majority-danes-see-us-a-adversary-after-greenland-theats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reopened old wounds<\/a> over Greenland on the eve of the meeting by insisting that the US should control the semi-autonomous territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDenmark doesn\u2019t spend money to really help Greenland, but it\u2019s an important part for the US, and it\u2019s surrounded by China ships and Russian ships \u2026 [It] should be controlled by the US, not by Denmark,\u201d Mr Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Ms Frederiksen said: \u201cWe hope that all, including all allies, will respect the Greenland people\u2019s right for self-determination. We are sovereign states, and we need everybody to respect our territorial integrity and our sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the reasons why we have \u200cbuilt Nato many, many years ago, is if anything \u2060happens \u2060to one of us, then everybody should stand up for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kristr\u00fan Frostad\u00f3ttir, Iceland\u2019s prime minister, said Greenland \u201cbelongs to the people of Greenland\u201d and called for unity among Nato allies in the face of external dangers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have threats coming from outside the alliance,\u201d said Ms Frostad\u00f3ttir. \u201cRussia is their biggest threat when it comes to these Nato allies.
