Jennifer Garner got refreshingly candid about her decades in the public eye, reflecting on her relationship with the paparazzi at the height of her marriage with ex Ben Affleck and the \u201cStockholm syndrome thing\u201d she has with one longstanding photographer. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was totally ludicrous,\u201d Garner told Evan Ross Katz<\/a> on Netflix\u2019s \u201cShut Up Evan!\u201d podcast Tuesday. The actress and producer, who sat with the talk series in promotion of Peacock\u2019s \u201cThe Five Star Weekend,\u201d<\/a> admitted that she knows complaining about fame is a privileged problem to have \u2014 \u201cIt felt like poor little me, you know, my poor little kids who have everything in the world.\u201d But she emphasized that some situations saw the paparazzi being \u201ca danger to everyone around us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I went through a yellow light, 15 cars would go through the red behind me. They would drive up onto people\u2019s lawns, even on a hillside,\u201d she recounted. Garner was even asked to remove their children from the local kids\u2019 soccer league because too many photographers would follow her and her family to the games. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t just about us; it was just an industry that had gotten out of control,\u201d Garner said. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, as much as I recognize that, you know, we are privileged and lucky and grateful for all that that has afforded us and all that that\u2019s made available, at the same time, it just got silly, and kids were at the center of it,\u201d she continued. \u201cI mean, I lived on the street with a lot of much more famous and successful people than I, but they followed me because I had the kids. They wouldn\u2019t follow Ben. They wouldn\u2019t follow Matt Damon. They wouldn\u2019t. They were like, \u2018There\u2019s the chick with the kids.\u2019 That\u2019s when you know it\u2019s just it\u2019s not right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if she believes today\u2019s landscape of paparazzi and celebrity culture has \u201cchanged dramatically\u201d in the years since, Garner shared that she still has two photographers \u201cevery day\u201d follow her because they\u2019ve been assigned to her for \u201c20-plus years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a very interesting relationship with my main guy. I mean, I\u2019ve done anything to ask him to leave, and at the same time, we have an odd respect for each other,\u201d Garner reflected, admitting that she has experienced \u201csome really real-life moments\u201d with the unnamed paparazzo. She\u2019s even turned to him for safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was followed by someone who, for whatever reason, I thought was going to hurt me, and I ran to him because I knew him and trusted him, and I knew he would, that he and I would be OK,\u201d Garner said. \u201cYou know what I mean? Like, there\u2019s kind of a Stockholm syndrome thing \u2014 and at the same time, I\u2019ve called the cops on him a million times and been like, \u2018Can you please just give me a walk around the block with my kids and my dog?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
