It’s an idyllic setting, rounded out by the palace towers, with its chapel reflected in the still waters of Slotss\u00f8, the lake that surrounds the estate. Located on Jutland’s east coast, the palace is the family’s go-to summer escape, one that also includes a historic and striking organic kitchen garden right next to the castle, which for decades has supplied the royal kitchens with fresh fruit and vegetables.<\/p>\n

These days, though, it’s also the setting for a break shared by Frederik and Mary, who were joined by Queen Margrethe. Denmark’s former monarch didn’t hesitate to travel to this beloved corner of the country for a family vacation, keeping alive a summer tradition that’s followed the dynasty for generations.<\/p>\n
