{"id":13483,"date":"2026-02-15T02:42:31","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T02:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/13483\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T02:42:31","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T02:42:31","slug":"drones-shut-down-copenhagen-airport-for-hours-as-police-search-for-perpetrator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/13483\/","title":{"rendered":"Drones shut down Copenhagen Airport for hours as police search for perpetrator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) \u2014 Several unidentified drones shut down airspace over Copenhagen Airport on Monday night, prompting concerns that Russia could be behind the flyover above Scandinavia\u2019s largest airport.<\/p>\n<p>There was no indication that the operators of two to three drones intended to cause harm to anyone, police said, and the drones disappeared after several hours. The incident caused a major disruption to air traffic in and out of the airport.<\/p>\n<p>While it wasn\u2019t immediately clear who was behind the flyover, Denmark\u2019s prime minister and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-rutte-text-message-nato-signal-6263810ac3ca77a5bf7366499f51c772\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NATO\u2019s secretary-general<\/a> said that Russian involvement couldn\u2019t be ruled out. And now Denmark \u2014 already on edge because of its proximity to Russia \u2014 will join a group of front-line countries Friday to discuss the European Union\u2019s plans for a \u201cdrone wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/greenland-denmark-prime-minister-frederiksen-visit-trump-4424e2b75ae66ad1c926dca50f2287b7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen<\/a> called it \u201cthe most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that it was \u201ctoo early to say\u201d whether Russia was involved, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected suggestions that Moscow could be involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time we hear unfounded accusations,\u201d he said in a call Tuesday with reporters, adding that \u201ca party that takes a serious and responsible position mustn\u2019t make such unfounded accusations again and again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A capable actor\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Officials chose not to shoot down the drones because the risk was too great because of the airport being full of passengers, the planes on the runways and nearby fuel depots, Jes Jespersen, senior police inspector of the Copenhagen Police, said during a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>Jespersen called the operators \u201ca capable actor\u201d and said they seemed intent on showing off their skills and possibly practicing their techniques. The drones\u2019 lights reportedly turned on and off and appeared to engage in different flight patterns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all indicates that you are not out to attack anyone, but you are out to show off and maybe to practice,\u201d he said of the operators.<\/p>\n<p>The two to three drones appeared to have flown many kilometers (miles) to reach the airport. Investigators are looking at how the drones reached the airport \u2014 whether it was by land or possibly by boat.<\/p>\n<p>Flights at the airport resumed early Tuesday, though delays and cancellations continued throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>A drone in Norway<\/p>\n<p>A drone incident the same evening at the airport in Oslo, Norway, forced all traffic to move to one runway, according to Norwegian broadcaster NRK. On Tuesday, NATO warned Russia that it would use all means to defend against any further breaches of its airspace after the downing earlier this month of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-poland-drones-1232774279039f9e5c5b78bd58686cb9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russian drones over Poland<\/a> and Estonia\u2019s report of an <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/british-intelligence-mi6-russia-war-443df0c37ff2254fcc33d5425e3beaa6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">intrusion of Russian fighter jets<\/a> last week. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd here we see a clear pattern: Russia is testing the European borders, also probing our resolve and undermining our security throughout,\u201d Anitta Hipper, European Commission spokesperson, said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Sept. 10 incident in Poland was the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-poland-drones-1232774279039f9e5c5b78bd58686cb9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first direct encounter between NATO and Moscow<\/a> since Russia launched a full-scale war on Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.
