Tivoli Gardens, a historic amusement park<\/a> in Copenhagen, Denmark, has shared a first look at its new Japan-themed area, called Hikari.<\/p>\n

Set to open in August, the Hikari<\/a> project represents the largest themed development in the park’s nearly 200-year history.<\/p>\n

Over the past two years, Tivoli’s former Asia-inspired area has undergone a complete transformation to become Hikari, which means ‘light’ in Japanese.<\/p>\n

The immersive zone covers an area of more than 2,000 square metres is inspired by a vibrant Japanese streetscape.<\/p>\n

“The new themed area<\/a> Hikari is not intended as a nostalgic reconstruction of Japan,” Tivoli said in a press release. <\/p>\n

“Instead, it is a contemporary interpretation inspired by Japanese architectural, landscape and urban design principles, reimagined through Tivoli Gardens\u2019 own artistic and theatrical approach.”<\/p>\n

Rasmus Altenborg, Tivoli\u2019s design and development director, told blooloop: “We went to Japan to get inspiration, and we cooperated with Danish, but also Japanese designers and architects, to ensure that what we did was correct.”<\/p>\n

Hikari features atmospheric lighting, landscaped gardens, distinctive architecture, street food concepts, Japanese art, and immersive<\/a> design elements.<\/p>\n

It includes two new attractions \u2013 Hotel Hikari and Typhoon\u2019s Eye. The former is a family-friendly<\/a> immersive experience, and the latter an intense thrill ride.<\/p>\n

The Demon, one of Tivoli Gardens\u2019 iconic roller coasters, is also part of the Hikari zone and has undergone an extensive visual transformation.<\/p>\n

“Hikari demonstrates how Tivoli Gardens can continue to renew itself, surprise guests and create world-class experiences<\/a> while preserving the unique character that has made the gardens so special for nearly two centuries,” said Tivoli Gardens’ CEO Susanne M\u00f8rch Koch.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1843, Tivoli Gardens is one of the world\u2019s oldest amusement parks and one of Copenhagen\u2019s most iconic cultural landmarks.<\/p>\n
