Some 250,000 people are expected to gather in Hamburg on Saturday for the northern German port city’s Pride event, one week after an Islamist terrorist attack on Berlin Pride left one woman dead and 31 people injured.<\/p>\n
Hamburg police have announced they will deploy twice as many officers as last year to protect the demonstration, known in Germany as Christopher Street Day (CSD). A float from the Berlin CSD association is also expected to take part, with participants wearing dark clothing in tribute to the victims.<\/p>\n
In Berlin, Islamist attacker Abdul B drove a car into a crowd a week ago and attacked further victims – apparently with a machete – on the fringes of the CSD. The 21-year-old was shot dead by police on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
Pride events are also taking place on Saturday in other European cities, including Amsterdam and Brighton.<\/p>\n
In the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, CSD events are planned in Bonn, Ahaus and Moers. In Saxony-Anhalt, a CSD is being held in Naumburg.<\/p>\n
