After a 12 year hiatus, LEGO and Maersk are back again with 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel<\/a>, which will be released (and start shipping, heh) on 1 March 2026. <\/p>\n

The 2026 LEGO Maersk set doesn\u2019t quite fall under any theme, but it\u2019s a welcome return of a partnership stretches back to the 1970s which longtime fans will appreciate. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re a shipping or ocean logistics enthusiast, or have an affinity with large container vessels or ships, 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel<\/a> is definitely one to put on your radar. Bear in mind, most of these LEGO sets are exclusive to LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store. <\/p>\n

Build Experience<\/p>\n

For a 1,516-piece model, this was quite a substantial build, although there\u2019s a lot of repetition involved. It\u2019s not the most technical build either, but if you enjoy building more traditional brick on brick style builds, you\u2019ll easily cruise with this model. <\/p>\n

There are 17 numbered bags in total, but the build goes by a lot quicker than the set piece count and number of bags suggest. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at the sticker sheet, which was surprising, as LEGO Maersk sets are usually massive sticker fests, so this is a huge departure from convention which a lot of Maersk fans will definitely appreciate.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at the set\u2019s instruction manual which is quite peculiar as it six huge two-page spreads dedicated to Maersk, the new Ane Maersk ship (which the set is based on), the container and ocean freight industry, and the Danish shipping giant\u2019s decarbonisation efforts. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never encountered such lengthy features about a set like this, which makes it seem like this model goes a step further than a standard LEGO collaboration, and in many ways, it kinda feels very advertorial-esque.<\/p>\n

I also think it\u2019s a bit of a missed opportunity to not include a section on LEGO\u2019s extensive history with Maersk (dating back to the 1970s) to give new builders who may not be aware of how closely both companies used to work together some context on the new set. <\/p>\n

One of the benefits of this seemingly being a heavily Maersk-backed promotional set is that we also have an unusually large selection of printed elements, such as panels used for Maersk\u2019s logo, and most excitingly, a trio of printed tiles for the containers. <\/p>\n

Yup, you read that right, all the containers are printed, and I\u2019m also delighted that there are 3 different variants to mix up the look. The front of the ship is also printed, with Maersk\u2019s sustainability tagline \u201cAll the Way to Zero\u201d printed on it. <\/p>\n

The completed model<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the completed LEGO Maersk Duel Fuel Container Vessel! It looks great on display, equipped with a display stand to give the model extra height and it measures 60 cm (23.5 in.) long, 5 cm shorter than 10241 Maersk Line Triple-E<\/a> which means it\u2019ll fit in very nicely with the other Maersk sets. <\/p>\n

For a LEGO vessel, it\u2019s a good enough and very sensible size, making it relatively easier to display than some of the larger models like the Titanic or Endurance, and if you\u2019re a fan of container vessels, this is a fantastic model to build and display.<\/p>\n

The containers look great on the Ane Maersk and there\u2019s just something aesthetically pleasing about seeing so many micro Maersk containers stacked on one another. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The containers can be easily removed from the vessel, and it\u2019s a fun playable feature as you can pretend to be a Container Crane, and load\/unload the Maersk vessel with containers. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As you can probably tell from the build, there are a LOT of repetitive sections in the build! <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Like the previous Maersk Triple E, there\u2019s also a viewing window on the hull to peer at the engine on the inside. Looking at photos of the Ane Maersk\u2019s engines, it seems somewhat close to the real thing, with the sand green being used to represent a very typical shade of green used in marine engine rooms. <\/p>\n

There are plenty of features that LEGO have managed to incorporate as well, such as this Life Boat station.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at the propeller and rudder. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Maersk logo, spanning two panels are printed which is a really nice touch. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the ship\u2019s bow, which has a unique configuration with the bridge located on the bow, which helps fuel efficiency. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You can remove the front panel of the bridge to reveal a (not-to-scale) crew quarters inside! There\u2019s a compass, a map of the world, a mug and fried egg, as well as a bed and toilet as well. It\u2019s a fun thing to know that this exists inside the build, and a great use of space. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s the stand and stickered plaque. It\u2019s a bit of a shame that the plaque isn\u2019t printed as LEGO seems to have begun printing most of these information plaques, but with with all the container tiles, I can let this one slide. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Final Thoughts<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re the type of person who has an appreciation for the Maritime Industry, large container vessels or subscribe to Wendover Productions<\/a> on Youtube, you\u2019ll find plenty to love with 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Maersk sets (Train and Triple-E) were available when I had emerged from my dark ages, I never owned any of the as they were outside of my budget at the time, and they weren\u2019t a particular focus for me. With LEGO and Maersk reacquainting themselves, it opens up fresh new opportunities for new and older LEGO fans to add a Maersk Container Vessel into their collection.<\/p>\n

LEGO have done a lot of things right with 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel<\/a>. For one thing, the decision to print all the Maersk container tiles negates one of the chief bugbears of previous Maersk sets, where you had to apply over 100 teeny tiny stickers, as was the case with the Triple-E. <\/p>\n

The design of the model, to celebrate the Ane Maersk is also quite accurate to the real ship, and with it being 60cm long, it\u2019s also a reasonably practical model to have on display, especially if you collect LEGO ships. <\/p>\n

Long-time LEGO Maersk fans will take umbrage that this isn\u2019t in the classic Maersk Blue, but that ship has sailed as even 10241 Maersk Line Triple-E<\/a> opted for Medium Azure which is the case here. Unfortunately, Maersk Blue is retired as a colour, and I doubt LEGO will bring it back. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Speaking of colours, there is something very peculiar going on here. All the Medium Azure elements have new Element IDs (first spotted by RacingBrick<\/a>), which suggests that these are all technically \u201cnew\u201d elements. I compared it against other similar Medium Azure elements and cannot distinguish any differences in colour, but this does suggest that LEGO have tweaked the Medium Azure formula slightly in the same way that \u201cWhite Elements\u201d were also tweaked. <\/p>\n

My educated guess is that LEGO have improved the pigment used for Medium Azure, which has previously been prone to UV\/sun damage, so hopefully this won\u2019t suffer the fate of the Maersk Triple-E, which could tarnish and yellow after awhile if exposed to too much UV. <\/p>\n

I really like what LEGO have done with 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel<\/a>. It\u2019s reasonably-priced, and while I\u2019m not particularly passionate about the maritime industry, I do appreciate the legacy of LEGO and Maersk\u2019s partnership, and am glad that a new generation of LEGO fans will get to enjoy a new Maersk set. <\/p>\n

Oh, and I love the box art. The illustration and design is so bright, cheery and vivid, and reminds me of a time, pre-18+ bleak black box. <\/p>\n

\n Feels really well-priced considering you get a ton of printed elements, and it also feels hefty on display <\/p>\n

\n It\u2019s a slimmed down and modernised Maersk Container Vessel which isn\u2019t groundbreaking but well executed <\/p>\n

\n Keepability <\/p>\n

\n A great addition to LEGO\u2019s growing collection of display ships, and a nice modern container vessel which isn\u2019t something LEGO have produced in awhile <\/p>\n
