I sip a local blond beer and look on as a queue builds across the street, sequinned bodies perspiring in the balmy summer evening air. \u201cIt\u2019s a gay sex club\u201d, a bartender informs me as I enquire about the nightlife scene. \u201cVery popular,\u201d she adds, before listing off a handful of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntraveller.com\/gallery\/best-bars-in-amsterdam\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">best bars<\/a> in the city. \u201cThere\u2019s something for everyone here, even though the city is small.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nightlife plays a big part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntraveller.com\/article\/world-pride-amsterdam\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WorldPride<\/a> celebrations, but it\u2019s by no means the draw for everyone. The showcase opened its doors ahead of WorldPride in July 2026 and is set to remain until April 2027. Jan Adam Kruseman\u2019s portrait of King William II is among the antique masterpieces that greet us, the accompanying description alluding to potential same-sex, extra-marital relations.
