{"id":140709,"date":"2026-08-05T10:39:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T10:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/140709\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T10:39:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T10:39:27","slug":"cnbc-daily-open-markets-rally-on-hopes-of-iran-u-s-strait-of-hormuz-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/140709\/","title":{"rendered":"CNBC Daily Open: Markets rally on hopes of Iran-U.S. Strait of Hormuz deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during the 2026 Reagan National Economic Forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, May 29, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Brehman | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Hello, this is Justina Lee writing to you from Singapore, filling in for Leonie.<\/p>\n<p>Optimism that Washington and Tehran\u00a0could reach a deal to open the critical Strait of Hormuz has sent markets cheering, after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that a deal to open the waterway could be reached by Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>In Asia, tech stocks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/05\/softbank-samsung-sk-hynix-samsung-tech-rally.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rallied<\/a> following Wall Street&#8217;s record-setting session. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">General Motors<\/a>\u00a0and China&#8217;s SAIC Motor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/gm-chinese-automaker-extend-tie-up-amid-geopolitical-tensions-with-us.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">extended<\/a> their joint venture by 20 years, while India&#8217;s retail inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/05\/india-rbi-interest-rate-inflation-iran-war.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rose<\/a> to an 18-month high in June.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Europe, attention turned to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novo Nordisk<\/a> after the weight loss drug maker&#8217;s raised guidance failed to impress investors.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline0\"\/>What you need to know today<\/p>\n<p>Traders are keeping a close watch on developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/bessent-says-there-may-be-deal-tuesday-or-wednesday-to-open-strait-of-hormuz-with-freedom-of-movement.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> CNBC that Iran and the U.S. could reach a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether Iran would be allowed to charge a toll, Bessent said: &#8220;It would be freedom of movement.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The southern route through the waterway remains free and open for all commercial vessels seeking to transit the international waterway,&#8221; the U.S. Central Command said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CENTCOM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">post on X<\/a>. About 20% of the world&#8217;s oil <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/strait-of-hormuz-shutdown-a-visual-guide-to-worlds-key-oil-chokepoint\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">flowed through the Strait<\/a> before the war.<\/p>\n<p>That said, tensions between Iran and the U.S. continue to linger. Iran has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/middle-east\/iran-us-war-live-trump-hormuz-strikes-b3026895.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reportedly claimed<\/a> that President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0could &#8220;ignite the spark&#8221; of World War 3 after Washington cautioned\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/tehran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tehran<\/a>\u00a0that it was its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/us-iran-war-trump-hormuz.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;last chance&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0to make a deal.<\/p>\n<p>In Asia, tech stocks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/05\/softbank-samsung-sk-hynix-samsung-tech-rally.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rallied<\/a> on Wednesday, tracking Wall Street&#8217;s record-setting session that was fueled by optimism surrounding artificial intelligence and growth stocks. That optimism in the region&#8217;s tech stocks also spilled over to the automotive sector. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">General Motors<\/a>\u00a0and China&#8217;s SAIC Motor said they have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/gm-chinese-automaker-extend-tie-up-amid-geopolitical-tensions-with-us.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">extended<\/a> their joint venture by 20 years, to 2047, following the initial deal that was established in 1997 for 30 years.
