The court-appointed leadership of the Republican People\u2019s Party (CHP), led by Kemal K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu, has appointed new provincial party chairs in eight provinces as it continues to reorganize the party following a court ruling that reinstated him as chairman, Turkish Minute <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n

The appointments\u00a0were announced<\/a>\u00a0after a meeting of the party\u2019s Central Executive Board (MYK) on Tuesday. Party spokesperson M\u00fcslim Sar\u0131 said new provincial chairs had been appointed in Ardahan, \u00c7ank\u0131r\u0131, Erzincan, Kahramanmara\u015f, Karab\u00fck, K\u0131rklareli, Kilis and Kocaeli.<\/p>\n

The MYK also appointed new district chairs in 22 Istanbul districts and named a new head of the party\u2019s youth branch.<\/p>\n

The latest appointments bring the number of provincial CHP organizations whose leadership has been replaced by K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu\u2019s administration to 66.<\/p>\n

According to the party, the provincial organizations in G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane and Kahramanmara\u015f had previously resigned en masse and joined the newly established New Party.<\/p>\n

Provincial party organizations in Sakarya, Bart\u0131n, Mersin, \u015eanl\u0131urfa, Ad\u0131yaman, Elaz\u0131\u011f, Bing\u00f6l, Bayburt, Van, Siirt, \u015e\u0131rnak and Hatay remain under their existing leadership.<\/p>\n

The latest changes\u00a0come<\/a>\u00a0after a court ruling in late July declared the CHP\u2019s November 2023 extraordinary congress \u201cnull and void\u201d (\u201cmutlak butlan\u201d), effectively reinstating former chairman K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu as party leader. The ruling overturned the leadership election in which \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel defeated K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu, triggering a struggle over control of the party organization.<\/p>\n

Following the ruling, K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7daro\u011flu assumed the party leadership and began replacing provincial and district organizations appointed under \u00d6zel\u2019s administration, arguing that the existing structure no longer reflected the party\u2019s legally recognized leadership.<\/p>\n

\u00d6zel rejected the court\u2019s decision as politically motivated and refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new administration.
