Her colorful, sometimes bohemian, work is so in tune with Copenhagen style that the four-year-old brand feels like it’s been embedded in the culture for a much longer time. It doesn’t hurt that Bille Brahe has so readily created strong signatures, such as dramatic shoulders, tweed trim, intricate and amusing embroidery, polka dots—and wrapped them all up in a great big bow.

The designer said the collection was “very Princess Diana inspired” but spring’s broader-than-ever shoulders suggest the late royal’s Paul Costelloe and David and Elizabeth Emanuel days more than the revenge era Bille Brahe mentioned. Balancing the big-on-top silhouette were slim-cut capri pants, which Scandi girls have really gone in for this summer. Bille Brahe continues to use deadstock fabric sources from luxury European houses, but this season she made her own denim rather than repurposing vintage. And she wasn’t shy about embellishments. “I want when the girls come out that you almost need sunglasses because it’s going to be shiny like a big glitter ball,” said the designer. She named the collection the Caro Club and among the models who made the runway feel like a party were Klara Kristen and Erin Wasson. Sara Blomqvist and Eniko, pals from Bille Brahe’s modeling days, also walked, as did the designer’s school friend, Barbara Potts. A collaboration with the Korean brand Heavenly Jelly resulted in I-want-them-right-now shoes that you could dance in all night.

Caroline Bille Brahe’s work is the clothing equivalent of Denmark’s famous pastries—delicious and delightful to look at.
