The controversy followed reports from residents who observed drilling equipment being brought ashore. Trump later shared an AI-generated image on his Truth Social account depicting himself overlooking a Greenlandic settlement alongside the message \u201cHello, Greenland!\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump had previously triggered international criticism in January 2025 after declining to exclude the use of military force to acquire Greenland. He argued at the time that the island was important to US national security.<\/p>\n
Although Trump has since moderated his language, he has described Greenland as \u201cvital\u201d to his proposed Golden Dome missile-defense system.<\/p>\n
Company rejects link to annexation plans<\/p>\n
Greenland Energy recently added Carol Craig, a US Navy veteran involved in the exploration project, to its board. The company has also brought in former television personality Dr. Phil McGraw to host a documentary series focused on its Arctic activities.<\/p>\n
The company has rejected suggestions that its oil venture is connected to any US effort to annex Greenland. Chairman Larry Swets acknowledged in June that a representative had incorrectly told local residents that authorization for the equipment landing was already in place.<\/p>\n
