From the outset it looked like being one of the most interesting movies in the Competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMarkus Schleinzer, filmmaker of Michael and Angelo and former casting director to Michael Haneke, Jessica Hausner, and Ulrich Seidl, directs the black and white film about mysterious soldier Rose (H\u00fcller), a woman disguised as a man, who appears in a secluded\u00a0Protestant village. She declares herself the heir of a long-abandoned farmstead and produces a document to support her claim to the suspicious villagers. Seeking stability and a place to belong, Rose attempts to integrate into the wary community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFilm Verdict describes the movie as \u201ca fascinating tale of gender politics in 17th century Germany [that] offers a gripping backdrop for Sandra H\u00fcller\u2019s prodigious acting talents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tVariety says that H\u00fcller \u201camazes, again, in Markus Schleinzer\u2019s immaculately controlled tale of gender privilege\u2026Eight years after premiering his superb but little-released Angelo, the Austrian auteur returns to European history for a deceptively simple folk tragedy with searing emotional impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tScreen trumpets H\u00fcller as \u201cphenomenal\u201d in the \u201carresting character study\u201d. Loud And Clear concurs, saying \u201cRose\u2019s linear structure and unwavering focus on Sandra H\u00fcller\u2019s protagonist make for an extremely effective, if often simple, character study\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tGerman publication Spiegel calls the film a \u201ctriumph\u201d for H\u00fcller who is \u201cbrilliant\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe actress won the\u00a0Silver Bear for Best Actress\u00a0at the 56th Berlinale in\u00a02006\u00a0for her role in the film\u00a0Requiem and has impressed in many movies since, including Toni Erdmann and The Zone Of Interest. Global audiences will be seeing plenty more of H\u00fcller in the next 12 months with starring roles to come in high-profile Hollywood movies Digger and Project Hail Mary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Match Factory is selling Rose at Berlin where it\u2019s likely to be one of the more in-demand arthouse movies on sale.
