{"id":145153,"date":"2026-08-13T15:11:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T15:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/145153\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T15:11:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T15:11:36","slug":"russian-plot-to-kill-an-american-citizen-in-warsaw-thwarted-by-poland-national","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/145153\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian plot to kill an American citizen in Warsaw thwarted by Poland | National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WARSAW (AP) \u2014 A Russian plot to kill a Ukrainian American citizen in Warsaw was thwarted by <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/poland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Poland<\/a> before it could be carried out, the Polish prime minister said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first time that \u201csomeone on the order of Russia\u201d sought to attack an American citizen on the territory of another NATO country, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/donald-tusk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prime Minister Donald Tusk<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>A suspect, who was allegedly recruited by Russia&#8217;s secret services, was detained by Polish authorities on Aug. 7.<\/p>\n<p>The American Ukrainian citizen \u201cwas uncomfortable for the Putin regime,\u201d Tusk said in a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>The operation was carried out in cooperation with U.S. services, said Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland\u2019s minister overseeing intelligence services. He said the targeted victim was a U.S. citizen \u201cof Ukrainian origin.\u201d Officials did not immediately provide further details.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 The Associated Press.
