reports<\/a>.<\/p>\nHotels, holiday homes and campsites recorded a record number of tourist overnight stays in the first half of 2026, according to figures released on August 20 from Statistics Denmark.<\/p>\n
Around 26 million overnight stays were recorded between January and June, up from roughly 25.5 million in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Danish tourists accounted for just under half the total, while Germans continued to dominate among foreign visitors.<\/p>\n
German holidaymakers booked more than 7.5 million overnight stays in the first six months of the year, a slight increase from around 7.4 million in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n
“Alongside German visitors, who account for the vast majority of foreign overnight stays, we can see that visitors from Norway and Sweden are returning to Denmark after weaker years,” Lars Bertolt Winther, head of tourism at the Confederation of Danish Industry, said.<\/p>\n
Denmark is also attracting more tourists from the United States, he said.<\/p>\n
For the second half of the year, the statisticians currently expect overnight stays to remain at roughly the same level as in 2025.<\/p>\n
