Danish energy company \u00d8rsted has unveiled plans for a new offshore wind development in Taiwan, named Dadu 2, with a proposed capacity of up to 2 GW\u00a0(Taiwan\u2019s Ministry of Environment website).<\/p>\n
The renewable energy developer intends to deploy wind turbines ranging from 14\u00a0MW to 22\u00a0MW each, although the final number of turbines and their configuration have yet to be determined. Electricity produced by Dadu 2 is expected to be transmitted via an onshore substation before being connected to either existing or future grid infrastructure operated by Taiwan Power Company.<\/p>\n
The project has now moved into the environmental assessment process, which includes a public consultation phase.<\/p>\n
\u00d8rsted is also developing another offshore wind project in the area, known as Dadu I. According to the Ministry of Environment\u2019s database, the project could have an installed capacity of up to 924 MW.<\/p>\n
At the end of July 2026, Taiwan\u00a0unveiled its\u00a02026-2039 Offshore Wind Power Promotion Plan, targeting\u00a024.7-27.9 GW\u00a0of\u00a0installed offshore wind capacity\u00a0by\u00a02039, up from around\u00a04.9 GW\u00a0currently installed\u00a0(KEI, 28\/07\/2026).<\/p>\n
Taiwan\u2019s offshore wind sector has encountered\u00a0challenges\u00a0as the first two Round 3 tenders (R3-1 and R3-2)\u00a0allocated only\u00a02.3 GW\u00a0and\u00a02.7 GW, respectively, both below the targeted 3\u00a0GW allocation level. Several projects subsequently had their development rights withdrawn. As a result, the\u00a02030\u00a0offshore wind target was reduced in 2025 from 13.1\u00a0GW to\u00a010.9 GW, while the\u00a02035\u00a0target was lowered from 20.6\u00a0GW to\u00a018.4 GW.
