Developed by Iceflake Studios, LEGO Skylines aims to allow players to build functional and logical cities, as you would in other city builders, but also push them to make something more creative and whimsical. One such example provided by the team behind the game is putting a bakery on every corner of the city, which can produce donuts using wheat provided by farmers from elsewhere in your city.

Using the creativity and imagination of the LEGO brand, LEGO Skylines players will be able to build the city of their dreams — not just maintain a realistic, functioning city, but one that lets them try outlandish and absurd ideas using LEGO bricks and decorations. The game promises a “frankly absurd amount of buildings, decorations, and other cool stuff” to build cities.

“Building and creativity have always been at the heart of the LEGO experience, but LEGO Skylines takes us into completely new territory,” said Fredrik Löving, SVP, Global Head of game at the LEGO Group. “Together with Paradox Interactive and Iceflake Studios, we have brought the LEGO experience to one of the world’s most beloved gaming genres. From the beginning, our ambition wasn’t just to make a LEGO city-builder, it was to create a game that is considered among the best in the genre. Whether players dream of building a bustling metropolis, a quirky seaside town, or something nobody has imagined before, LEGO Skylines gives them the creative freedom and depth to make it happen.”

All in all, it sounds like a really charming and fun city builder. There’s no release date for LEGO Skylines at the moment, but it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC when it comes out.

Cade Onder is a freelancer for IGN’s news team.
