In a comment to Mobilegamer portal, a representative from Rovio stated<\/a> that the recent cancellation of Sonic Blitz \u2014 a mobile game developed by Rovio Copenhagen \u2014 was the reason for the studio’s closure. He added that some employees of the Copenhagen division would still be able to retain their jobs by transferring to other game teams, but the rest would be laid off.<\/p>\n The exact number of layoffs is not yet known, but the Rovio Copenhagen team consists of around 20 people.<\/p>\n After the studio’s closure, Rovio will have no offices left in Denmark, effectively withdrawing from the Danish market.<\/p>\n It is worth noting that Rovio Copenhagen has had a rather winding history with numerous ownership changes. The studio opened in 2012 under the name Hapti.co<\/a> and was initially a subsidiary team of IO Interactive, which was then part of Square Enix. Five years later, it was acquired<\/a> by Wargaming and renamed to Wargaming Copenhagen. In 2020, it became known as Darkfire Games, but under this brand, it operated for only about a month before Rovio came into the picture, purchasing<\/a> the studio and giving it its current name.<\/p>\n Source:<\/p>\n
