“We are reversing the decision to dissolve the boards. We see that the inclusion of employee representatives on boards has become a politically sensitive issue, and the ruling majority has indicated it will introduce amendments to bring the relevant law into force earlier,” municipal administration director Adomas Bu\u017einskas said on Facebook.<\/p>\n
“Since we will no longer be able to appoint new boards under the current legislation, we are saving everyone time and stepping back,” he added.<\/p>\n
Bu\u017einskas also said that the current boards would remain in place until the end of their terms.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, the municipality announced plans to dissolve the boards of five city-owned companies \u2013 ID Vilnius, Vilniaus vystymo kompanija, Miesto gijos, Grinda and Vilniaus vie\u0161asis transportas (VVT) \u2013 from 29 October.<\/p>\n
The administration said the move was linked to labour code amendments due to take effect in November, requiring employee representatives to be included on the boards of state and municipal enterprises.<\/p>\n
Social Democrat lawmaker Algirdas Sysas said he planned to propose amendments to ensure the requirement could not be bypassed.<\/p>\n
