Imagine waiting six years for your $3-million-or-so hypercar to arrive, only to have someone lay into it with blunt force just days after finally getting behind the wheel. The definition of a champagne problem, for sure\u2014but still a problem. And it\u2019s a problem the owner of the world’s first customer-delivered Koenigsegg Gemera<\/a> is apparently dealing with right now.<\/p>\n

According to reports circulating<\/a> on social media<\/a>, then brought to broader attention by Carscoops<\/a>, the Johan R\u00f6d Koenigsegg Gemera<\/a> in question (seen above as depicted on Koenigsegg\u2019s official Instagram feed<\/a>) was parked outside of the posh Hotel d’Angleterre in Copenhagen, Denmark recently, when at some point during the night, an unknown party allegedly used rocks to smash the windows, doors and mirrors of the four-seat hypercar. Danish police are reportedly investigating and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area; the motive remains unknown.<\/p>\n

Koenigsegg unveiled the Gemera back in March 2020<\/a>, but it took years for the first customer example to reach production. This particular car was publicly unveiled earlier this summer before its owner began driving it around Europe in August, with some of its journey being posted on the Instagram account of the dealership from which it was pickup up.<\/p>\n

Naturally, a multi-million-dollar hypercar is going to attract attention wherever it goes. But this particular example seemed to attract a bit of negative attention even before the reported vandalism took place. On some Danish subreddits<\/a>, the car was already the topic of discussion after being spotted a few times. While many admired the Koenigsegg, there were several comments about the car not displaying the required front plate.<\/p>\n

But even more egregious to some was the fact that the car was seen with Swedish temporary tags. Redditors took umbrage to the fact that the car was being driven around Denmark without being registered there, which they say meant the owner had not yet paid the 150-percent tax assessed to such an expensive car\u2014a fact some commenters said they found grossly unfair.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, the damage to the Gemera appears repairable (albeit no doubt expensive to fix). Hopefully, its next chapter involves more time on the road … and considerably fewer rocks.<\/p>\n
