Moller \u2013 Maersk (Maersk) has selected Anemoi Marine Technologies (Anemoi) to supply its Rotor Sail system for installation aboard an 8,700-TEU Maersk Lima-class container vessel.<\/p>\n<p>The project marks the first deployment of Rotor Sail technology on a container ship carrying a broad range of cargo, from consumer and retail goods to industrial equipment and components, as Maersk looks to improve vessel efficiency and reduce emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Anemoi has previously deployed its Rotor Sail technology across several vessel segments, including bulk carriers transporting raw materials and commodities.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re delighted to be working with Maersk on this pioneering project. It\u2019s a strong example of how collaboration can support the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion, and we look forward to carrying out the installation and working together as the project progresses.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026said Clare Urmston, CEO of Anemoi.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, Anemoi will design, manufacture and supply a fixed Rotor Sail measuring 5 metres in diameter and 35 metres in height. The system will be integrated with the vessel\u2019s existing onboard systems, with Anemoi supporting the engineering and installation process.<\/p>\n<p>Installation is scheduled for mid-2027, after which the Rotor Sail will be tested during the vessel\u2019s regular operations, including expected voyages in the North and South Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Rotor Sails are a wind-assisted propulsion technology that uses aerodynamic lift to generate additional thrust, reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions when operating conditions are favourable.<\/p>\n<p>Wind-assisted propulsion is one of several promising maritime solutions with the potential to improve vessel efficiency and reduce emissions. It has already been tested in other parts of the shipping sector, and we see this pilot with Anemoi as a valuable opportunity to build practical experience and assess its relevance for our fleet and for container shipping more broadly.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026highlighted Ole Graa Jakobsen, Head of Fleet Technology, Maersk.<\/p>\n<p>Anemoi, which was incorporated in 2015, has installed its Rotor Sails on vessels serving a diverse network of international trade routes. Anemoi\u2019s expansion onto new types of transport vessels comes at a critical time when the International Maritime Organization\u2019s Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships has set zero emissions by or around 2050<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A.P.
