(Lockheed Martin)<\/p>\n<p>Three Lockheed Martin air surveillance radars will be installed across Denmark in Skagen, Bornholm, and the Faroe Islands, according to a 11 December press release from the Danish Ministry of Defence (Forsvarsministeriet).<\/p>\n<p>The contract for the three radars also provides an opportunity to install a fourth radar in Greenland, according to the MoD release.<\/p>\n<p>While the Danish MoD did not name the radar model, a Lockheed Martin press release on 16 December confirmed that the Danish Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) had selected the company&#8217;s TPY-4 radar for long-range air-defence capabilities. The delivery of the radars is intended to strengthen the Royal Danish Air Force and to \u201csupport NATO&#8217;s collective security\u201d, according to Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current security policy situation requires that the [Danish military] presence and co-operation in the Arctic and North Atlantic be significantly strengthened,\u201d Denmark&#8217;s Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen said in the MoD press release.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark is the fifth country to select Lockheed Martin&#8217;s TPY-4 radar, Paul Lemmo, vice-president and general manager of integrated warfare systems and sensors at Lockheed Martin, said in a social media post on 12 December. The three radars are expected to be delivered and become operational \u201cin the coming years\u201d, according to the MoD.<\/p>\n<p>The TPY-4 is an L-band (1,215\u20131,400 MHz) 3D active electronically scanned array (AESA) ground-based mobile radar, according to the manufacturer&#8217;s specification document. It has a maximum range of 1,000 km in a stop\/stare mode and a range of 555 km in rotating mode.
