The certification, awarded in 2025, recognises actions implemented in 2024 that reduced operational emissions by 96% compared to 2018 levels.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, the airport was required to cut emissions by at least 90%, with the remaining 4%\u2014linked to de-icing and business travel\u2014offset through approved carbon avoidance projects.<\/p>\n<p>Anneli Turkin, Member of the Management Board at Tallinn Airport, said the achievement reflects years of systematic effort: \u201cSince 2018, we have collected data, calculated and reduced our carbon footprint, and involved partners in the process. CO\u2082e emissions per employee have fallen from 38 tonnes to just 1.3 tonnes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Key measures included installing solar parks across Estonian airports, transitioning to renewable electricity and district heating, and introducing electric equipment and renewable fuels. In 2024, Tallinn generated 6.2 GWh of renewable energy, covering around half of the group\u2019s electricity demand, and began supplying only renewable electricity to partners.<\/p>\n<p>The airport has also expanded its charging infrastructure for employees, partners and passengers, supporting wider adoption of electric mobility.<\/p>\n<p>Turkin added: \u201cCarbon neutrality is a major step towards a cleaner future for Estonia\u2019s aviation and transport sector.
