Two demonstrations involving the Blue-and-Black movement and antifascist groups are expected to draw hundreds of people to central Helsinki on Saturday, 5 September, with police warning of disruption to traffic.<\/p>\n

Helsinki Police said several events have been reported for Saturday. The two largest gatherings will take place during the afternoon. Officers will police both demonstrations and maintain public order in the city.<\/p>\n

The first demonstration will gather at Rautatientori at 1.30pm before marching towards Dallap\u00e9 Park. The demonstration is organised by Aurora Helsinki and the Varis Network, with support from the Helsinki Without Nazis coalition.<\/p>\n

According to the Varis Network, the demonstration is intended to oppose the Blue-and-Black movement and its calls for the deportation of some people living in Finland. On its website, the network links the march to a wider campaign against fascism and the parliamentary far right, while accusing parts of the political right of enabling far-right policies. It says that an organised antifascist movement is needed to counter what it describes as street violence, racist border policies, support for wars and economic policies that harm workers.<\/p>\n

A second demonstration will gather at Hakaniemi Market Square at 2pm and march towards Kansalaistori. The\u00a0Blue-and-Black movement announced the demonstration on a Facebook post.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Blue-and-Black movement describes itself as a nationalist and traditionalist movement. It\u00a0has been widely described by Finnish authorities, researchers and media organisations as openly racist and fascist. It first entered Finland\u2019s register of political parties in June 2022. The Supreme Administrative Court overturned that registration in April 2024, and the organisation regained registered party status in May 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n
