The Berlin Marathon might be happening this month, but that doesn\u2019t mean you need to be on that level to hit the streets and break a sweat. Whether you\u2019re a seasoned distance runner looking for some competitive races leading up to the big event or you\u2019ve been inspired to lace up and get started, there are plenty of running events for beginners and advanced runners alike. From fun runs and shorter races to challenging distances, here are our picks for the best running events this September.<\/p>\n

Half Marathon Berlin-Reinickendorf 2026<\/p>\n

Why no one has renamed this \u2018Runickendorf\u2019 is beyond us. However, with a route that wraps around the district of Reinickendorf, the 27th BORSIG Halbmarathon has a selection of distances ranging from 5km, 10km, 4x5km relays and, of course, the half marathon. With drink stands to refuel and music stages to keep the energy high, this race is popular with locals and international participants.<\/p>\n

Life Run of the Berliner Aids-Hilfe<\/p>\n

Running to raise awareness for greater acceptance of people with HIV, AIDS and other chronic diseases, the Berliner Aids-Hilfe Life Run is back for its 17th year. Promoting health, community and challenging the stigma around HIV sufferers, this run has the option of 5k, 10k routes. Plus, if running isn\u2019t your thing, cycling and walking the route is also totally acceptable.<\/p>\n

Friedland Forest Trails Run Camp 2026<\/p>\n

Situated in Brandenburg, this is a hop, skip and a run away from Berlin. It\u2019s led by some of the city\u2019s most popular running clubs including RUN-N-RAVE, Midnight Runners, Slow Poke Runners, Rolling Mile Running Club, Running FOMO, Move&Meet and our friends at Mobile Kino. The focus is on swapping competing for community.<\/p>\n

This Sunday morning run around Kreuzberg pounds the district\u2019s iconic streets and takes you down the wonderful sights of Moritzplatz, Mariannenplatz and Oranienstra\u00dfe. With a selection of distances from 0.5km, 5.25km, a 2.5km children\u2019s run and a bambini run for children up to five years, it\u2019s a good time for all the family.<\/p>\n

In Berlin, it winds through the historic Olympia park and stadium, and with a distance of 5.7km, it\u2019s relatively low stakes. So if the office needs a morale boost or works from home, this could be the perfect solution to get everyone huffing and puffing together \u2013 in the best possible way.<\/p>\n

Swapping the asphalt for the leafy Tegeler Forest, the Run & Bike race is suitable for experienced runners and cyclists with mountain bikes, or bikes that can handle off-road conditions. The variety of paths will challenge everyone but provide a sporty escape from the city. Each runner that reaches the finish line will receive a medal, with engraving available on site.<\/p>\n

Separating the wheat from the chaff, the Obstacle City Run has a variety of distances with up to 31 obstacles within the run for you to navigate. Set within the grounds of the Olympiapark, the distances range from 6km to 12km, with a 3km family edition. So there\u2019s no excuse not to try it out. Just be prepared to get wet and dirty.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not running the Berlin Marathon, then you better be there cheering. Of the \u2018Big Seven\u2019 marathons, it\u2019s the one where records have been broken the most often \u2013 13 times, to be exact. It\u2019s a vibe. There\u2019s lots of music, moral support and human-shaped hype machines (that\u2019s you) to bring the energy. You get to spend the whole day outside, egging on those sporty spices achieving an accomplishment you can barely fathom (or is that just us?). Who knows, maybe it will even inspire you to buy a pair of running shoes.<\/p>\n
