The set keeps bouncing between eras, and that movement is part of its charm.

“My Monster” and “Long Time” sit comfortably beside “Atomic” and “Heart Of Glass.”

That says plenty about Blondie’s durability. The newer material never feels like an interruption to the older songs. It shares the same appetite for sharp melodies, rhythm and stylistic collision.

Harry remains the focal point, of course, but the band around her is doing serious work. Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Tommy Kessler, Matt Katz-Bohen and Leigh Foxx give the songs their bite, with Burke’s drumming especially important to the way the set keeps pushing forward.

There’s also a playful detour into Beastie Boys territory with “Fight For Your Right,” which makes perfect sense for a band that has spent its entire career ignoring the idea that genres should stay in their own lanes.

Then comes “Fragments,” one of the most atmospheric moments in the set.

By the time Blondie hit “Atomic” and “Heart Of Glass,” the performance has turned into a compact tour through nearly 40 years of musical reinvention. Disco pulses sit beside punk guitar, pop instincts rub against artier textures, and nothing feels forced.

“Dreaming” closes the show with exactly the kind of melodic lift the song has always carried.

The recording later aired on Sky Arts HD and eventually made its way online, preserving a night when Blondie could stand in a relatively intimate Berlin club, play brand-new songs beside some of the most recognizable records of their career and make the whole thing feel like one continuous conversation.

That is what makes this performance such a good snapshot of Blondie in 2017. They were carrying their history with them, but they were still adding to it.

SETLIST:

One Way Or Another
Hanging On The Telephone
Fun
Call Me
My Monster
Fight For Your Right
Fragments
Long Time
Atomic
Heart Of Glass
Too Much
Dreaming

Blondie’s 2017 Berlin set feels wonderfully close-up: a legendary band with decades of history packed into SchwuZ, a…

[99
6483,112,75405,75406,75407,75408,75409,75410,75411,5830,190,75412,75413,75414,75415,75416,75417,75418,75419,75420,75421
post-160782","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-berlin","tag-atomic","tag-berlin","tag-blondie","tag-call-me","tag-chris-stein","tag-clem-burke","tag-debbie-harry","tag-dreaming","tag-fragments","tag-fun","tag-germany","tag-hanging-on-the-telephone","tag-heart-of-glass","tag-leigh-foxx","tag-long-time","tag-matt-katz-bohen","tag-my-monster","tag-one-way-or-another","tag-pollinator","tag-schwuz","tag-tommy-kessler
["GET
