Clinging to a \u201cfalse narrative\u201d demonstrates the essence of Brussels\u2019 foreign policy, as it continues to support a \u201crevolutionary scenario\u201d that was defeated in Georgia, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told journalists.<\/p>\n
Papuashvili was responding to remarks by Michele Cervone d\u2019Urso, Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, who said the EU was deeply concerned about the \u201cpolitically motivated use of the judicial system\u201d against civil society organizations in Georgia and the adoption of repressive measures.<\/p>\n
Papuashvili called the EU\u2019s assessment \u201cslander\u201d and accused Brussels of spreading disinformation about Georgia.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is outrageous when such a platform is used to spread disinformation and lies,\u201d Papuashvili said, adding that Brussels should abandon what he called its \u201cfalse narrative\u201d and \u201caggressive rhetoric\u201d toward Georgia.<\/p>\n
He also accused Brussels of having incited the \u201cstorming of the presidential palace on October 4,\u201d referring to what he described as an attempted coup.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us remind you that to date, no representative of Brussels, nor the EU ambassador, nor any representative of any country has publicly condemned the October 4 violent storming of the presidential palace,\u201d Papuashvili said.<\/p>\n
Cervone d\u2019Urso said at a UN Human Rights Council session that the EU was deeply concerned about the politically motivated use of the judiciary and the adoption of repressive measures against civil society organizations in Georgia.<\/p>\n
He also said the EU reiterated Georgia\u2019s obligation to protect fundamental freedoms and called for the repeal or substantial revision of recently adopted legislation that undermines international human rights standards.<\/p>\n
