{"id":1665,"date":"2026-02-06T19:32:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T19:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/1665\/"},"modified":"2026-02-06T19:32:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T19:32:53","slug":"orsted-wins-reprieve-on-revolution-wind-project-halted-by-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/1665\/","title":{"rendered":"Orsted wins reprieve on Revolution Wind project halted by Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A turbine blade is lifted onto a rack near tower sections at the Revolution Wind project assembly site at State Pier in New London, Connecticut, US, on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Danish renewables giant Orsted rose nearly 5% on Tuesday morning, shortly after a U.S. judge cleared the company to resume work on its nearly finished Revolution Wind project.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/orsted.com\/en\/media\/news\/2026\/01\/us-federal-court-grants-preliminary-injunction-all-1474935811\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a>, Orsted welcomed the ruling from the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, saying the action would allow the company &#8220;to restart impacted activities immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ruling is a legal setback for the pro-fossil fuel Trump administration, which moved to block the $5 billion Revolution Wind project.<\/p>\n<p>The White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/22\/trump-offshore-wind-cvow-dominion.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">halted<\/a> five major offshore wind developments at the end of last year, including Orsted&#8217;s project off the coast of Rhode Island. Officials cited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.gov\/pressreleases\/trump-administration-protects-us-national-security-pausing-offshore-wind-leases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">national security concerns<\/a>\u00a0identified by the Pentagon as the reason for the suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Orsted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/02\/orsted-files-challenge-over-trumps-halt-to-revolution-wind-project.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filed a legal challenge<\/a> to the Trump administration&#8217;s decision earlier this month, saying that the lease suspension would cause &#8220;substantial harm&#8221; to the Revolution Wind project.<\/p>\n<p>In a hearing on Monday, U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth said the Court should be &#8220;very skeptical of the government&#8217;s true motives&#8221; for putting a stop to the project, according to Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You want to stop everything in place, costing them one-and-a-half million a day, while you decide what you want to do?&#8221; Lamberth asked Justice Department attorney Peter Torstensen.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the U.S. Interior Department did not immediately respond to CNBC&#8217;s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Field, chief equity strategist at Morningstar, said the U.S. judge&#8217;s decision was clearly welcome news for the likes of Orsted and Danish wind turbine maker Vestas but warned of further industry uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s certainly a win for these companies anyway \u2014 and they have had such a hard time over the last year or so that they could definitely use that,&#8221; Field told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/squawk-box-europe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Squawk Box Europe<\/a>&#8221; on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But \u2026 whether Trump will find a way around this or find some other way to maybe go at these companies is the question. So, I wouldn&#8217;t be completely celebrating as of yet,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Revolution Wind is a 50\/50 joint venture between Orsted and Global Infrastructure Partners&#8217; Skyborn Renewables. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.284486\/gov.uscourts.dcd.284486.1.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">filing<\/a> last year, Orsted and Skyborn Renewables said they had already spent approximately $5 billion on the project.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Orsted traded 4.5% higher at around 10 a.m. London time (5 a.m. ET). Vestas, meanwhile, was last seen up around 1.6%. <\/p>\n<p>Shares of Norway&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/EQNR-NO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Equinor<\/a>, whose Empire Wind 1 project was also impacted, were last seen 2.7% higher.
