U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/golden-age-marco-rubio-gushes-over-viktor-orban-pre-election-meeting\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">met Orb\u00e1n in Budapest on Monday<\/a>, after U.S. President Donald Trump already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-throws-support-behind-viktor-orban-hungary-election-approach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">endorsed<\/a> the far-right populist leader this month.<\/p>\n<p>Musk, who owns X, has also waded into European politics in Germany, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>X did not respond to POLITICO&#8217;s request for comment at the time of publication. <\/p>\n<p>The election is critical to Brussels&#8217; establishment as well, POLITICO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/hungary-viktor-orban-fidesz-peter-magyar-tisza-5-key-questions-election-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported earlier<\/a>, as Orb\u00e1n frequently clashes with Brussels and other European capitals over support for Ukraine, LGBTQ+ rights and Russia sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Democracy Reporting International <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy-reporting.org\/en\/office\/global\/news\/dsa-in-court-what-we-learned-from-suing-x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">lost<\/a> a similar case before a Berlin court for access to data on the German elections.
