An American senator called the Danish prime minister<\/a> a \u201clittle lady\u201d in a foul-mouthed rant over the future of Greenland, reports say.<\/p>\n

Lindsey Graham<\/a>, a Donald Trump supporter who represents South Carolina, made the comment during a private meeting with Mette Frederiksen, the Danish leader, and Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the prime minister of Greenland.<\/p>\n

A source told Berlingske, the Danish newspaper, that after being described as a \u201clittle lady\u201d, Ms Frederiksen responded: \u201cWhen you\u2019re done, the meeting can continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the meeting, which took place at the Munich Security Conference<\/a> over the weekend, Mr Graham reportedly said that Mr Trump was the most powerful man in the world and that if he wanted to take Greenland, he would.<\/p>\n

One source told Puck News, the American website, that there were \u201clots of F-bombs\u201d, while another described the American senator as \u201ccombative\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr Graham, who has long been supportive of Nato, has shifted his stance over the issue of Greenland, aligning instead with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho gives a s— who owns Greenland<\/a>?\u201d he said in a recent interview, with Politico on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.<\/p>\n

He told the website that, after Nato allowed the US to bolster its military presence in the semi-autonomous Danish territory, Europe should stop worrying about Mr Trump\u2019s threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re nervous, have a beer, go see a doctor. Stop being nervous,\u201d he said. \u201cThe point is everybody loves Nato.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI love it more because people are doing more,\u201d Mr Graham added, referring to a commitment by Nato members to boost defence spending.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many of you believe Nato would be contributing this much money if it weren\u2019t for Trump?\u201d Mr Graham asked. \u201cHe\u2019s giving them a reason to do it and they\u2019re doing it so let\u2019s celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The US president has repeatedly threatened to seize the Arctic island<\/a>, saying last month that he would \u201cget\u201d it for international security reasons.<\/p>\n

Greenland is rich in natural resources, including copper, nickel, and rare earth minerals. These are crucial for AI chips, electric vehicles and other tech, and America is seeking to challenge China\u2019s hold on their global supply.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mr Trump eventually backed down after a meeting with Mark Rutte, the Nato secretary-general, long considered to be a \u201cTrump whisperer\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir Starmer announced this week that the Royal Navy would patrol Greenland for the US<\/a> by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Nato launched a military effort known as \u201cArctic Sentry\u201d, which is aimed at improving security in the Arctic, where Russia and China are a growing threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the face of Russia\u2019s increased military activity and China\u2019s growing interest in the High North, it was crucial that we do more,\u201d Mr Rutte said last week.<\/p>\n

Gen Alexus Grynkewich, of the US Air Force, said in a statement: \u201cArctic Sentry underscores the alliance\u2019s commitment to safeguard its members<\/a> and maintain stability in one of the world\u2019s most strategically significant and environmentally challenging areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Telegraph has approached Mr Graham for comment.<\/p>\n
