{"id":18824,"date":"2026-02-19T20:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/18824\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T20:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:51:08","slug":"denmark-hold-iran-flagged-containership-over-registration-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/18824\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark Hold Iran-Flagged Containership Over Registration Concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"161\" height=\"41\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/reuters_logo1.jpg\" alt=\"Reuters\" class=\"wp-image-89354\"\/><\/p>\n<p>COPENHAGEN, Feb 19 (Reuters)\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Denmark\u2019s maritime authority said on Thursday it had detained an <a href=\"https:\/\/gcaptain.com\/tag\/iran-sanctions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Iran<\/a>-flagged container vessel anchored in the Nordic country\u2019s waters on the grounds that it was not properly registered.<\/p>\n<p>The ship, using the name \u201cNora\u201d according to LSEG data, was initially sailing under a Comoros flag, but Comoros informed Denmark that the vessel was not found in its registry, the\u00a0Danish\u00a0authority told Reuters by email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ship is detained until a flag state can demonstrate to the\u00a0Danish\u00a0maritime authority that it is registered and fully certified,\u201d the authority said, adding it would conduct a port state inspection of the vessel before it could be released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe inspection will be conducted when weather conditions make it safe to do so,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>LSEG data show the \u201cNora\u201d is now under the Iranian flag.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0Danish\u00a0broadcaster TV2, which first reported the news, the vessel changed its flag from Comoros to Iran on Wednesday. Reuters was not able to independently verify when the change happened.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cNora\u201d shares the same International Maritime Organisation number as a vessel formerly named CERUS, a container ship on the U.S. Treasury\u2019s sanctions list, according to LSEG data.<\/p>\n<p>IMO numbers are permanent vessel identifiers that remain unchanged, irrespective of name changes or flag switches.<\/p>\n<p>The CERUS was designated under the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Iran sanctions program and is linked to Argun Shipping Inc. and Reel Shipping LLC, LSEG data show.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters was not able to reach Argun or Reel Shipping for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel has been lying idle the past 25 days, according to TV2.<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Stine Jacobsen, Soren Jeppesen and Louise Rasmussen.
