{"id":19530,"date":"2026-02-20T15:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T15:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/19530\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T15:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T15:16:07","slug":"senator-sullivan-discusses-the-lng-pipeline-greenland-with-alaskas-news-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/19530\/","title":{"rendered":"Senator Sullivan discusses the LNG Pipeline, Greenland with Alaska\u2019s News Source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU\/KTVF) &#8211; Senator Dan Sullivan visited Fairbanks this week, where he sat down with Alaska\u2019s News Source to discuss various topics from around the state and the nation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Claiming that Alaska is coming back after former President Joe Biden\u2019s term, Sullivan lauded an executive order from the Trump administration which he said will release Alaska\u2019s resource potential and the Working Families Tax Cuts Act from July, which the senator argues will help Alaska as much as any other state. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Regarding the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas Pipeline running from Prudhoe Bay across the state, Sullivan said the effort to secure that project involves a combination of efforts from the state legislature and developers, and that the state needs to do everything in its power to see it come to fruition. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He said the pipeline has been a priority of the current administration, and that the senator has been meeting with potential buyers of the LNG in Asia. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re also making sure the federal permitting continues to go forward in a good way, which it has,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Asked whether he would support the deployment of Alaska-based troops to other states for situations like the one that occurred in Minnesota, for which 1,500 troops from the 11th Airborne Division were put on standby before being ordered to stand down, Sullivan said both the Trump administration and protestors needed to tone things down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhen the president was looking at those options, they always have to view those options, but I would certainly view that as a last option that hopefully we don\u2019t have to get to in any of these situations,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The senator said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) needs to refine its tactics and procedures, but that local and state law enforcement needs to cooperate to avoid incidents. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAnytime you have a situation where in a short amount of time two Americans are killed, that\u2019s not good,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to Sullivan, his office is still trying to get the facts about the Soldotna family that had members <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alaskasnewssource.com\/2026\/02\/20\/rapid-deportation-case-may-signal-change-pace-alaska-immigration-proceedings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.alaskasnewssource.com\/2026\/02\/20\/rapid-deportation-case-may-signal-change-pace-alaska-immigration-proceedings\/\">taken in by ICE custody<\/a> Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">After securing the border, he said ICE should prioritize \u201cgetting rid of violent, criminal, illegal aliens,\u201d then \u201cyou go further to illegal aliens with significant crimes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Sullivan\u2019s Fairbanks visit included attending a meeting with military leaders at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF Museum of the North and visiting local business Flowline Alaska, Inc., which works on insulation and welding, among other pursuits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The UAF event discussed the increasing role of the Arctic in security concerns and geopolitics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The senator talked about the role of Greenland in those discussions, saying he believes Alaska should be a greater priority from a national security standpoint. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cEverything you hear about Greenland, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s Arctic, strategically located in the Arctic, has a lot to do with missile defense, it\u2019s got critical minerals.\u2019 Okay, that\u2019s Alaska. We\u2019re that times 10,\u201d he argued. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Sullivan said he did not support the invasion rhetoric. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe already have a treaty with Greenland,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cLet\u2019s work with them.
