On August 4, during<br \/>\nher visit to Riga, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Bra\u017ee powerfully<br \/>\nreaffirmed Latvia\u2019s steadfast commitment to supporting Moldova\u2019s<br \/>\njourney toward European Union integration, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.trend.az\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trend<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>She welcomed Moldova\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister for European<br \/>\nIntegration, Cristina Gherasimov, and praised the country\u2019s<br \/>\ncontinued progress on key reforms.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Bra\u017ee and Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov discussed<br \/>\nregional security, Moldova\u2019s ongoing reform process, and next steps<br \/>\nto strengthen energy independence and resilience, especially in the<br \/>\nfield of renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>They also addressed the political situation in Moldova ahead of<br \/>\nthe upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for September<br \/>\n28.<\/p>\n<p>The officials emphasized the importance of safeguarding<br \/>\nMoldova\u2019s democratic processes in light of ongoing hybrid threats,<br \/>\nincluding disinformation, covert political interference,<br \/>\ncyberattacks, and other destabilizing activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe agree that the upcoming elections could be decisive for<br \/>\nMoldova\u2019s path toward the EU. During this critical period, it is<br \/>\nessential to counter any form of foreign interference, particularly<br \/>\nby enhancing the security of Moldova\u2019s electoral infrastructure and<br \/>\nstrengthening strategic communications,\u201d said Minister Bra\u017ee.<\/p>\n<p>Bra\u017ee also underlined Moldova\u2019s significant achievements in the<br \/>\nEU enlargement process, calling it a \u201cmodel for other candidate<br \/>\ncountries,\u201d and reiterated Latvia\u2019s continued support for opening<br \/>\nall chapters of EU accession negotiations with Moldova before the<br \/>\nend of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov expressed appreciation for the<br \/>\nEU&#8217;s decision to impose sanctions on individuals involved in<br \/>\nactions aimed at destabilizing Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>Latvia, together with other Baltic and Nordic countries, has<br \/>\nplayed a key role in supporting Moldova\u2019s reform efforts,<br \/>\nbolstering democratic institutions, enhancing energy security, and<br \/>\nproviding humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past three years, Latvia has contributed \u20ac150,000<br \/>\ntoward Moldova\u2019s energy security and deployed a national expert to<br \/>\nthe EU Partnership Mission in Moldova. Latvian ICT companies are<br \/>\nalso exploring opportunities to help build Moldova\u2019s critical<br \/>\ninfrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>During her visit, Gherasimov also met with Parliamentary<br \/>\nSecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Artjoms Ur\u0161u\u013cskis,<br \/>\nChair of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee In\u0101ra M\u016brniece, Chair<br \/>\nof the European Affairs Committee Edmunds Cepur\u012btis, and other<br \/>\ncommittee members.<\/p>\n<p>She also visited the Riga Graduate School of Law, where 73<br \/>\nMoldovan students have so far completed the school\u2019s intensive<br \/>\nprogram in European law and economics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5.
