And \u201canything\u201d really does mean anything. BookTok made a raunchy blanket fly off the shelves<\/a>. Stanley cups owe practically all their popularity<\/a> to the clock app. It\u2019s simply a reality of modern-day economics.<\/p>\n Now, the internet is going gaga<\/a> over reusable grocery bags\u2014specifically, Trader Joe\u2019s tote bags. And one man is going viral for encountering this premium in the wild.<\/p>\n \u2018People have been paying egregious amounts of money\u2019 <\/p>\n In a video first posted on Feb. 13 that has since accumulated almost half a million views, TikToker Tremaine (@tremaineontv<\/a>) shares an experience he had with a Trader Joe\u2019s fan abroad.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I\u2019m in Denmark, I\u2019m in Copenhagen,\u201d Tremaine begins in his video. \u201cAnd I saw this girl earlier with a Trader Joe\u2019s bag \u2026 the ones that they have been selling out of. So of course, me, I stopped her.\u201d<\/p>\n Tremaine says he communicated with the girl and learned she purchased the bag online.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018Wait, how much did you pay for it?”\u201d Tremaine recounts. \u201cBecause I know people have been paying egregious amounts of money for the Trader Joe\u2019s bag.\u201d<\/p>\n Tremaine then encourages his viewers to guess how much the girl paid for it. Surely it can\u2019t be that much for a bad that\u2019s worth under 10 bucks, right? Wrong.<\/p>\n \u201cThe girl paid $3,000 for the Trader Joe\u2019s bag,\u201d Tremaine reveals. \u201cI was like, \u2018No. You talking about 3,000 dollars or \u2026 a 3,000 Danish chrome, whatever it\u2019s called? She\u2019s like, \u2018No. $3,000.’\u201d<\/p>\n He continues, \u201cSomebody in the United States is going to the Trader Joe\u2019s, buying all the bags, and we sell them to people in different parts of the world that want the bag. This lady just paid $3,000 for a little treasure.\u201d<\/p>\n People can\u2019t believe their ears <\/p>\n Tremaine, and countless viewers in his comments section, expressed utter disbelief that anyone would pay that much for any bag, much less a grocery store bag.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m one of those people that when people want something so bad, even if I don\u2019t really want it, I just gotta have it because other people want it,\u201d Tremaine admits at the end of his video. \u201cI\u2019m like, I\u2019m really a Trader Joe\u2019s fanatic. I love Trader Joe\u2019s, but what, I spend $3,000 on the bag? Heck, no. Only one, however, is going mega-viral and being resold for the exorbitant prices Tremaine discussed in his video. If people are burning thousands of dollars to snag one, Trader Joe\u2019s probably sells it at a premium, right?<\/p>\n Wrong. The viral tote bag costs only $2.99<\/a>.<\/p>\n Only if you\u2019re in Trader Joe\u2019s country, however. Non-Americans clearly don\u2019t have quite the same access, and they\u2019re paying for it. The virality of this tote bag has people forking over the big bucks not only in Denmark, but also in places like the UK <\/a>and Japan<\/a>.<\/p>\n Believe it or not, some resellers are even making millions<\/a> off these bags. Literally. And while some people are clearly excited by the regional \u201cexclusivity\u201d of this product, Trader Joe\u2019s itself reportedly isn\u2019t thrilled by this hype-induced craze.<\/p>\n \u201cTrader Joe\u2019s, for its part, has tried to distance itself from the frenzy,\u201d Delish reports<\/a>. \u201cNakia Rohde, the company\u2019s public relations manager, said they \u2018neither condones nor supports the reselling of [its] products\u2019 when asked about the topic and \u2018does all [it] can to stop the practice.’\u201d<\/p>\n The Mary Sue has reached out to Trader Joe\u2019s via email and Tremaine via TikTok comment and DM.<\/p>\n Have a tip we should know?
