{"id":21451,"date":"2026-02-23T04:15:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T04:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/21451\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T04:15:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T04:15:08","slug":"greenland-rejects-trumps-hospital-ship-no-thanks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/21451\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenland rejects Trump&#8217;s hospital ship: &#8216;No thanks&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hospital ship President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/4466994\/greer-trade-partners-stand-by-deals\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> sent to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4463463\/promises-trump-2025-joint-session-congress\/\">Greenland<\/a> is receiving an icy welcome from officials of the Arctic island.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4466725\/us-hospital-ship-greenland\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4466725\/us-hospital-ship-greenland\/\">announced<\/a> Saturday that he sent a U.S. hospital ship to \u201ctake care\u201d of Greenland\u2019s population. The president\u2019s declaration comes as he has set his eye on the island, and claimed the vessel is being sent to tend to sick people \u201cnot being taken care of there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen signaled on Sunday he would rejecting the ship\u2019s services, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/02\/22\/trump-greenland-hospital-ship\/?utm_campaign=wp_main&amp;utm_source=bluesky,facebook,threads,twitter&amp;utm_medium=social\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/02\/22\/trump-greenland-hospital-ship\/?utm_campaign=wp_main&amp;utm_source=bluesky,facebook,threads,twitter&amp;utm_medium=social\">saying <\/a>it\u2019s \u201ca no thank you from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/AP26045652284759-e1771799752923.jpg\" alt=\"Prime Minister of Greenland Jens Frederik Nielsen.\" class=\"wp-image-4467035\"  \/>Prime Minister of Greenland Jens Frederik Nielsen at the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany, Saturday Feb. 14, 2026. But we have a public healthcare system where treatment is free for citizens,\u201d Nielsen said. \u201cThat is a deliberate choice \u2014 and a fundamental part of our society. That is not how it works in the USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nielsen also urged Trump to cooperate with Greenland \u201cinstead of making random statements on social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDialogue and cooperation require respect for the fact that decisions about our country are made here at home,\u201d the prime minister added.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/4461027\/norway-svalbard-trojan-horse-china-russia\/\">NORWAY\u2019S SVALBARD IS A TROJAN HORSE FOR CHINA AND RUSSIA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump indicated his decision to send the ship was made with Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA), who the president  <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4342594\/trump-taps-jeff-landry-as-greenland-special-envoy\/\">tapped<\/a> to serve as special envoy to Greenland in December.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s direction of the hospital ship to Greenland comes shortly after NATO began boosting its defense in the Arctic, largely conducting military drills.
