The program offered a simple proposition, \u201cDo something good for the city, and you will be rewarded in return.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Visitors are encouraged to ditch the car and explore Copenhagen on foot or by bike, volunteer at an urban farm, help pick up trash in the canals, or opt for a plant-based meal. The <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.visitcopenhagen.com\/copenpay\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">full list<\/a> of partners includes a mix of cultural institutions and local attractions, making CopenPay a fun and immersive way for travelers to experience Copenhagen and make a positive impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Maddy Novich, a visitor from New York City, participated in the CopenPay program, completing activities such as riding a bike to a museum in exchange for a cup of coffee and picking up trash in exchange for a small meal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cI think it\u2019s a fantastic way to incentivize tourists to engage in responsible and eco-friendly behavior,\u201d says Novich. \u201cI especially love that it encourages people to visit less well-known places\u2014like picking up trash at a beer garden\u2014which might otherwise be missed. It definitely made me more mindful of how I move through urban spaces as a guest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Visitors can redeem perks for their responsible travel etiquette by showing proof of participation to the local partner, which can include photos of themselves engaging in the activity (e.g. bike riding, walking, etc.), train tickets, or any other form of verification. Denmark consistently ranks among the <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/dashboards.sdgindex.org\/rankings\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">world\u2019s most sustainable countries<\/a>, and CopenPay supports Copenhagen\u2019s ambitious goals of becoming one of the world\u2019s first carbon-neutral capitals. In 2020, Hawai\u2019i launched <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gohawaii.com\/malama\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">M\u0101lama Hawai\u2019i<\/a>, an ongoing campaign that invites travelers to m\u0101lama, or give back to the community and <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/travel\/article\/native-hawaiians-hiking-tips-to-avoid-burial-sites\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">respect the islands<\/a>. The program partnered with over 30 community organizations and volunteer groups that offer activities such as beach cleanups, tree plantings, or Hawaiian quilting sessions in exchange for a special discount to local attractions or a complimentary hotel night.
