{"id":23578,"date":"2026-02-24T22:30:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T22:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/23578\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T22:30:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T22:30:11","slug":"thousands-in-berlin-show-support-for-ukraine-as-war-enters-5th-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/23578\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands in Berlin show support for Ukraine as war enters 5th year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Thousands of people in Berlin marched on Tuesday evening toward the historic Brandenburg Gate in solidarity with Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia&#8217;s war against it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We Europeans must understand that peace does not fall from the sky, that peace must be fought for,\u2019 said Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He stood on a stage directly in front of the Brandenburg Gate, illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian national flag, closely surrounded by more than two dozen ambassadors from European countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Gratitude for German support<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Makeiev expressly thanked Germany for its backing, saying that it had become Ukraine&#8217;s most important supporter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Last year, we received German investment in the Ukrainian arms industry for the first time,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;And we are building drones that can reach targets deep inside Russian territory, thanks in part to German support.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The demand for more weapons was heard repeatedly during the rally \u2013 both on stage and from the crowd in front of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Around 5,000 people took part in the rally, according to the Berlin police, while organizers estimated a significantly higher figure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Many waved blue and yellow flags or draped them around their shoulders.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"The Brandenburg Gate is illuminated in the colors of the Ukraine flag as participants gather to mark the fourth anniversary of the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
