{"id":24360,"date":"2026-02-25T14:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T14:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/24360\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T14:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T14:56:09","slug":"german-newspaper-bild-reports-tricia-tuttle-may-be-leaving-the-berlin-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/24360\/","title":{"rendered":"German newspaper Bild reports Tricia Tuttle may be leaving the Berlin film festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tricia Tuttle\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1473287_03programmpressekonferenz_org_575830.jpg\"   loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"2333\" height=\"1555\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle may be poised to leave the Berlinale, according to a report in German tabloid newspaper Bild today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s biggest tabloid reports German minister of state for culture Wolfram Weimer has called a meeting of the Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH (KBB) management for Thursday, February 26.<\/p>\n<p>The KBB is responsible for the management of the Berlinale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Berlinale shared a statement from Germany\u2019s federal government commissioner for culture and media (BKM), which read:\u00a0\u201cBKM confirms that on Thursday morning there will be an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board of KBB GmbH at the initiative of State Minister Wolfram Weimer. Weimer is the Chair of the Supervisory Board. The meeting will include a discussion on the future direction of the Berlinale. We will not comment on any further speculation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bild\u00a0reports that the federal government has indicated the extraordinary board meeting will focus on possible personnel changes. Screen has not been able to confirm this detail.<\/p>\n<p>The KBB meeting comes after a turbulent 76th edition of the festival. According to Reuters, German environment minister Carsten Schneider left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/yellow-letters-wins-berlinales-golden-bear-as-politics-dominate-closing-ceremony\/5214151.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the closing ceremony<\/a> on Saturday, February 21 in protest at a speech by Abdallah Al-Khatib, who won the Berlinale Perspectives top prize with Chronicles From The Siege.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Khatib, who was carrying a Palestinian flag on stage, accused the current German government of being \u201cpartners in the genocide in Gaza by Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schneider issued a statement saying he \u201cconsiders these statements unacceptable and therefore left the event during the speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her role as festival director, Tuttle attended events at the festival including the premiere of Al-Khatib\u2019s Chronicles From The Siege on Sunday, February 15, as well as a drinks gathering for the Israeli film community on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>Political controversy dogged the 11 days of the festival following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/films-are-the-opposite-of-politics-says-wim-wenders-at-berlinale-opening-press-conference\/5213737.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the jury opening press conference<\/a>, when jury president Wim Wenders described filmmakers as \u201cthe opposite of politics\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Several high-profile talent then fielded direct questions about political issues with varying degrees of openness, before Tuttle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/berlinale-director-tricia-tuttle-responds-to-festivals-politics-controversy\/5213902.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">issued a statement<\/a> on February 14 in which she said \u201cartists should not be expected to comment on all debates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over 80 former Berlinale attendees including Tilda Swinton and Javier Bardem then signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/berlin-alumni-including-tilda-swinton-urge-festival-to-condemn-israel-over-gaza\/5214012.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">an open letter<\/a> published on the evening of February 18, criticising the festival for its stance on Gaza. \u201cWe recognise the depth of anger and frustration,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/berlin-film-festival-director-tricia-tuttle-responds-to-gaza-open-letter\/5214039.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said Tuttle to Screen <\/a>the following day.<\/p>\n<p>The political issues were referenced at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screendaily.com\/news\/yellow-letters-wins-berlinales-golden-bear-as-politics-dominate-closing-ceremony\/5214151.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the closing ceremony<\/a>, including by Wenders, who made a seven-minute speech in which he addressed \u201cthe artificial discrepancy\u201d between the languages of cinema and social media.
